Severn Trent Services, manufacturer of SmartMeterTM intelligent water meters, have introduced a new, exceptionally durable meter casing for their SM150 Global Meter. The casing, made from a rugged, high-performance thermoplastic, has exceptional strength that protects it from damage to threads when metal fittings are overtightened. The new meter casing is resistant to zinc chloride, chlorine, ultraviolet light and high temperatures and is ideal for use in demanding environments commonly found in the Middle East and other parts of the world.
Originally launched in 2004, the SM150 Global Meter has proven to be particularly successful in harsh environments around the world. Like all SmartMeter water meters, the SM150 has no moving parts, so it is unaffected by the mechanical wear and subsequent accuracy problems associated with other metering technology, even in areas where sand, grit and other particulates are a concern. SmartMeter water meters do not register air, which further enhances their accuracy. In addition, these intelligent water meters provide critical information by detecting leaks, indicating vacant properties and identifying the attempted removal of the meters.
